CHINA_Achieving Full Coverage of Pension Schemes for Urban and Rural Residents

The State Council introduced a pilot of a new pension scheme for rural residents in 2009 and a pilot of a pension scheme for urban residents was carried out in 2011. The new pension scheme for rural residents and the pension scheme for urban residents were set for full coverage in China on July 1, 2012. With the establishment of the two pension schemes, a pension system covering both urban and rural residents has been basically in place. China has made a giant step toward the goal of building a well-off society and guaranteeing basic livelihood for all. The dream of the Chinese people to enjoy old-age care is coming true.
